On 5 October 2026, the Delhi High Court granted Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks an interim injunction against Chakr Innovation, a Delhi cleantech company (CS(COMM) 1080/2026).
The evidence
Chakr held 26 SolidWorks licenses for the basic versions. SolidWorks’ phone-home technology logged 160 infringement hits from 12 computers between November 2023 and July 2026, some carrying the company’s own domain. A cease-and-desist letter in December 2024 and pre-litigation mediation in 2025 did not resolve the matter.
The order
- Chakr may not use or install pirated or unlicensed SolidWorks.
- It may not format the 12 identified computers or delete logs and data on them, so the evidence is preserved for trial.
This is an interim order, not a final judgment; the case continues in November 2026 and January 2027.
Takeaways
- Holding some licenses does not cover use beyond them, such as higher editions or extra machines.
- Courts accept vendor usage data to identify the specific computers involved.
- Ignoring a warning letter and failed mediation lead straight to court.
