In order to understand piracy’s impact on a software company’s bottom line, many factors need to be taken into consideration. There are many questions and, due to the nature of piracy, typically little facts available on the financial impact it has on software vendors.
ITCA has developed a methodology that, when applied to a specific software title, can provide comprehensive insight on the impact of piracy. This methodology is based on a combination of ITCA’s experience and internal data sources, and analysis conducted on data retrieved from various external providers.
The report provides an educated estimation, broken down into “user” and “geography” categories, on the amount of unlicensed users who have installed the product. Furthermore, the report demonstrates in which region(s) illegal copies of their software is available and suggests strategies that can be implemented to reduce the impact of this threat.
Revenue losses due to the direct and indirect impact of piracy is calculated based on the data collected. These losses can be staggering, but also represent opportunities for an additional revenue source when combined with ITCA’s “Revenue Recovery Services”.
