Microsoft slams piracy, wants more tech incentives

Santo Domingo.- Microsoft Dominicana general manager Juan Lora affirmed Tuesday that that the country needs measures such as the initiative to promote the software industry Law, which in his view will reduce piracy in the local market, with stronger protection for intellectual property.

 

He said Microsoft Dominicana’s biggest competitor is bootleg software, and that a proposed bill aims to spur the software industry, for local consumption and export as well, and will attract more investment from major transnationals.

 

Lora said the local presence of companies such as Microsoft means benefits, since for each dollar the company makes another 15 go to the country’s economy, in addition to that the 53 percent of the jobs are created by the information technology industry.
